Michigan at Notre Dame (1986)
John Carney missed on a 45-yard field goal attempt with 17 seconds remaining in coach Lou Holtz’s debut as the Irish lost a tough 24-23 decision to Michigan. Jamie Morris scored all three Wolverines touchdowns. Michigan QB Jim Harbaugh completed 15 of 23 passes for 239 yards while ND’s Steve Buerlein was 21 of 33 for 263 yards and one touchdown. Notre Dame led by 7-0 and 14-7 before surrendering 17 consecutive points. A missed extra point and three turnovers inside the Michigan 20-yard line doomed the Irish.
